📝 Elation Note
Reimagining clinical documentation with a block-based, AI-native editor to reduce administrative burden and boost provider productivity.
* This project spanned three years, countless iterations, and a full framework for ethical AI in clinical workflows. If you’re curious about the full design journey, happy to share the deep dives in conversation.
The Challenge
Elation’s original visit note was loved for its simplicity but limited by a rigid codebase. Iterating was slow and risky, making it nearly impossible to adapt to evolving value-based care needs. Providers struggled with non-linear encounters and organizations lacked the ability to enforce protocols in-flow.
The Vision
Elation Note transforms documentation from a static form into a dynamic, AI-powered canvas. Built from atomic “blocks,” it balances provider flexibility with organizational structure and guidance.
Block architecture: units of clinical thinking and computation
AI-native: invisible assistance woven into workflows, not bolted on
Flex + structure: clinicians capture nuance, organizations enforce care models
What We Shipped
New Elation Note - block based flexible editor
Structured fields + custom blocks for any specialty or workflow
Templates 2.0 to scale consistency without sacrificing flexibility
AI integration powering scribing, medication reconciliation and clinical decision support
My Role
Took early design concepts forward, then led the transition into AI-native documentation as generative AI matured
Synthesized years of practitioner feedback into actionable design principles
Partnered with founders, PM, engineering and clinicians to align vision, validate prototypes and unblock tradeoffs
Piloted the beta version with high-stakes practices before GA rollout
Impact
Elation Note is now the foundation of our AI-native platform — a three-year redesign that’s delivering measurable efficiency gains, stronger provider satisfaction, and the flexibility to scale value-based care.
3-year redesign → GA 2025 across Elation’s customer base.
Early adoption: 6,770 notes created in week one, with 22% signed setting a baseline for growth.
Efficiency gains: 40–50% time savings, with average sign time dropping from 3.8 hours (legacy) to 1.1 hours (Elation Note).
Provider satisfaction:
⭐️4/5 for Note overall
⭐️5/5 for Custom Blocks
⭐️4.4/5 for Templates 2.0
Strategic impact: Positioned Elation Note as the central engine for AI-native innovation in the EHR, enabling structured data capture, custom workflows, and value-based care protocols.
